A person who spiked candy with tranquilliser and gave them to children at a summer camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two young males both nine and 10.

The defendant was detained after eight minors and an older person fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The elderly man, from that region, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Yet, he disputed a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on late November.

'Treat game'

The legal representative, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.

She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.

The man engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, the legal counsel explained, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She stated the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had concerns in recently.

The legal representative added: "This year his family member had concerns about the activities, justifiably.

"They chose" to investigate in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC explained objects including lubricant, ointment and syringes were located, and his stepchild contacted the authorities about his worries.

She explained the man continued to conduct the "treat game" with six boys that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that point," she stated further.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.

Mrs Prior stated the children were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the family member contacted the authorities again.

She explained Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
